To attempt to switch the “Pilates is just for chicks” mind-set, Fuse Pilates Playground found in DC’s Dupont Circle, is partnering with the Los Angeles-based men’s cancer organization, November. Fuse Pilates DC will be offering specifically scheduled classes in Nov and December challenging men to attend and encouraging girls to bring their men, partners, bros, fathers and / or male pals to class.

During these months, one hundred percent of proceeds from each Pilates for November class will be given to the organization to raise awareness for prostate trouble and other male cancer initiatives.

Fuse will demonstrate that Pilates offers a plethora of strength, balance and core benefits that men strive to find in other workout methods. “Like most diseases, prostate trouble affects not only men, but their friends and family too, so it’s really important to help find a cure and spread the news about detection and treatment.

November is a great way to bring awareness and raise cash for research and education,” says Jocelyn Murray, instructor and November organizer for Fuse Pilates in DC. “Pilates is fantastic exercise for all populations : men, girls, the aged, dancers, soccer players, yogis, everybody.

How to Improve Your Golf Swing

The first order of business is to check your body’s position at the end of your golf swing. Each time you make a full swing, your body (in particular your hips and abdomen) should be facing your target. Your back must be practically vertical. Basics Of A Good Golf Swing

Work on one thing at a time. Never think you are going to master the basics of a good golf swing in one day. It is not going to happen. Learning how to improve your golf swing is a process that takes time.

Make sure your clubs are fit for you. Don’t think that every club will be okay. It simply is not the case.

Learn the basics of a good take away and back swing for improve all around play. One important aspect of your golf game is to have a controlled back swing for all your shots. Take the club back slowly and develop a good back swing for precision.

Always start with a good grip and  always check it for consistency and comfort. A lot of golfers take it for granted when they step up to the ball that their grip is routine. Never fall into that trap. Make sure you feel comfortable with your grip and that you always take the same position with your hands. Stop to verify it before you swing.

Learn to address the ball and take your stance according to the shot. Your stance and leg position must be different for any shot on the course. If you need a closed stance, an open stance, lean forward, short swing, or long swing, choose your stance and position with care. The set up and your address are keys to making a good shot whether it be a drive, wedge, long iron, or even a putt.

Work to increase your club head speed. Speed provides you with distance and you’ll need plenty of distance for today’s longer courses. There are drills you can use to increase your club head speed. Work with a professional to develop more speed and be familiar with your speed. Your professional can measure your club head speed for you.

Avoid the slice. Nearly all golfers have a natural slice which you ought to correct. The slice is not your friend because it cuts down on distance and is difficult to control. Part of your set up should be to aim your shots to the right to work on using a draw.

Become a great putter. Wonderful putters shoot lower scores.

Golf Swing Mechanics

A good set-up and the address position is integral. Few golfers take enough time over this important alignment or golf swing mechanics , and others think they are properly aligned when they’re not.

I have played golf for few months, and with practices I expect that I could do better! However, I feel that there is something with my golf swing skills. I asked from some professionals and I do practice the way they asked for.. however, it is not working right!

Anyone can give me some suggestions or possibilities so that I can improve!? Thanks!

The key to hitting accurate approach shots is executing the fundamentals during your iron swing—setup, takeaway, backswing/downswing, impact, and finish. How you execute the fundamentals during these phases determine how well you hit an iron. Some professionals that give golf instruction sessions include the transition from backswing to downswing as a separate phase. Making a smooth transition from your backswing to your downswing is critical. But in the interest of space, we’ve included it as part of the backswing.

Setup
There’s no reason not to start with a good setup. Flex at the knees, stand firmly on the balls of your feet, bend from your hips not your back, adopt a straight (but not rigid) back, and balance your weight evenly over both feet. Think "rock and roll" to remind you that feet serve as a rock through your backswing and roll through your downswing. And don’t overlook ball position. It’s never farther back than your sternum or farther forward than your left armpit.

Takeaway
It’s critical that you make a good takeaway. Watch golfers who have low golf handicaps. Most will have good takeaways. Some teachers use the 2-8-12-rule in their golf lessons. During the first two inches of your takeaway, take the club straight back. From the second inch to the eighth inch, take the club back some more, but don’t break your wrists. This is a natural continuation of your takeaway. From the eighth inch to the twelfth inch, start breaking your wrist. At this point, the club should be parallel to the ground and the target line. In the rough, you’ll need a slightly steeper takeaway.

Backswing
Shifting your weight to your back foot is crucial in your backswing. It enables you to make a good coil and prevents you from making a reverse pivot. So keep until your weight shifts to your back foot. Keep your hands away from your body. At the top of the swing, a straight left arm is ideal but a slightly bent elbow is also acceptable. Your head should be behind the ball.

Make a smooth transition to the downswing. From this position, you’re ready to turn toward the target. Allow your hands to drop underneath your head as you begin shifting toward your front foot. The club should be directly over your rear shoulder. You should be approaching the ball with a descending blow.

Impact
This is the moment of truth. Good golfers know that at impact they need to achieve a "stacked" position to make solid contact. This position includes a full release of the wrists, a straight left arm (right for left-handers), most of your weight transferred to the front foot, and your hips open. Contrary to popular belief, the impact position isn’t the same as the setup position. With longer irons, allow for a slower wrist cock. This widens your swing and provides the flatter arc these clubs require.

Finish
Your finish tells you a lot about what’s going on during your swing. The correct finish ends with the bodyweight primarily on the front foot, the club behind you, and your head, chest, and belt buckle facing the target. You also should be balanced and able to hold that position indefinitely. From your finish position, you can tell two things: (1) if the majority of your weight has successfully shifted to your front foot, and (2) if your body has fully rotated without excessive sliding through the downswing, which will produce mis-hits.

Driving the ball is indeed sexy. But it’s only one phase of golf. If you’re serious about improving, you must master your irons, too. A 300-yard drive is worthless if you don’t follow up with an accurate approach shot. Use the golf tips we’ve provided above to hone your iron swing. It will help you hit more greens in regulation and chop strokes off your golf handicap.

Teaching golf to a beginner is one of the most difficult golf teaching jobs a golf trainer can attempt but it can also be one of the most rewarding.

If you have a passion for teaching golf and would like to get a new perspective on golf training equipment, two Mercedes vans will travel across the country this year to main golf tournaments and events, carrying high-tech golf teaching tools technology using their new Performance Center, a mobile golf tour presented by the PGA of America to help golfers improve their golf swing mechanics and putting.

During a news conference, masters champion Bernhard Langer and PGA professionals demonstrated the performance center’s  golf teaching tools technology.

I think this is an awesome idea. When I grew up playing golf in Germany, I wish I had something like this. The opportunity to be filmed and get immediate feedback from a mobile performance center is fantastic.

It is going to help a lot of folks from the very beginners, to the typical player, even to the professionals, like myself. I want to applaud Mercedes-Benz for being so innovative,” Langer said.

The Mercedes-Benz Performance Center was conceived from a golfing center that Mercedes-Benz had at the PGA Championship last year, said Lisa Holladay, the manager of brand experience marketing at Mercedes-Benz USA LLC.

On site there, we had a 6,000-square-foot brand center, and we had over 22,000 people come through it last year, Holladay said.

Teaching the game of golf is a great exercise. Mercedes-Benz and PGA of America wanted to take it out on the road to reach more golfers and support the growth of the sport of golf, she said.

When customers pay a visit to their Mercedes-Benz dealership, they can try out full swing analysis and putting analysis technology by GolfTec, which utilize GolfTec’s patented motion and video analysis. The technology uses digital video, motion measurement and biofeedback to compare the person’s swing data with GolfTec’s proprietary database of more than 150 Tour Professional golf swings.

The performance centers also have a 3-D television where visitors can play Tiger Woods’ golf game on Sony Play Station 3 and a large screen TV with touch screen technology that allows customers to build their own custom Mercedes, said Adam Paige, the department manager of national brand public relations for Mercedes-Benz.

Additionally the Mercedes-Benz Performance Center will be visiting golf championships, local dealerships and events over the next few months.

The Wells Fargo Championship, PGA Championship, Charles Schwab Cup Championship, Senior PGA Championship, Chevron World Challenge, AT&T National, several Mercedes-Benz Dealer Golf sectionals and PGA Play Golf America days.
